With a 100mg dose, studies have found that treatment improves erections in over 80% of men. If we’re totally honest, there is no best Viagra for men, for a simple reason. All Viagra is the same — powered by the same active ingredient, Sildenafil.
Cialis and Viagra both work to treat erectile dysfunction, but they differ significantly in how long they last and when they start working. While Cialis can last up to 36 hours, Viagra offers a quicker onset within 30 minutes. Cialis (tadalafil) and Viagra (sildenafil) are both phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED). They increase blood flow to the penis, which helps produce an erection suitable for sex. A key difference between Cialis and Viagra is their duration of action, largely determined by their biological half-life.
This refers to the time it takes for drug levels in the bloodstream to drop by half. Cialis has a longer half-life than Viagra, leading to a longer duration of action: Cialis: Works up to 36 hours (giving it the nickname "the weekend pill") Viagra: Works up to around four hours, with the strongest effects seen in the first two hours PDE5 inhibitors prevent the breakdown of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP), which relaxes blood vessels and increases blood flow to the penis for stronger erections. The onset of action, or how quickly Cialis and Viagra work, depends on their peak plasma concentration—the point when the drug reaches its highest level in the blood after liver metabolism. With Cialis, the peak plasma concentration is reached in around two hours, translating to an onset of action of roughly one hour. With Viagra, the peak plasma concentration is reached in around one hour, translating to an onset of action of 30 minutes or less. The different types of Viagra only differ by strength. And so, while you’ll find more or less potent versions of Viagra, it all works in the same way. There are three different viagra red doses of Viagra. The one that’s best for you will depend on your situation. The standard dose, the 50mg Viagra is sold over the counter as Viagra Connect. 74% of men who use the 50mg dose can achieve an erection, according to studies.

The higher dose of Viagra is the 100mg pill. It tends to be recommended to those who have tried Viagra Connect but have not seen results. The lower dose, meanwhile, is for those who have not tolerated the higher doses well.
It works thanks to its active ingredient, Sildenafil citrate. This is a drug known as a PDE5 inhibitor. Its job is to target an enzyme, phosphodiesterase 5 (PDE5), that’s responsible for smooth muscle contraction in the penis. Sildenafil inhibits the function of this enzyme and allows more blood to flow to where it’s needed — boosting your chances of getting and keeping an erection. Thanks to Sildenafil, Viagra is highly effective in treating erectile dysfunction. With a lower dose, you’re less likely to experience side effects.
When it comes to medicine, ‘best’ is only a matter of what works for you.

However, these can differ from one man to the next. When considering which Viagra is best, you’ll need to assess these too. So, if you regularly experience any of the following when taking Viagra, a lower dose might be preferable: Chest pain or angina (caused by not enough oxygen reaching your heart muscle) Priapism — one of the more serious side effects of Viagra. Priapism is a painful erection that won’t go away. In this case, seek medical advice immediately. Both the UK NHS and the US FDA recommend that you do not take Viagra if you have heart disease or are taking drugs for high blood pressure (such as Riociguat). If you are taking nitrates or alpha-blockers, you’ll need to tell the pharmacist before they can sell you Viagra, in any form.
You should know that Viagra is not your only option when it comes to treating ED.
With Viagra, the drug is only licensed for the treatment of ED. While erectile dysfunction (ED) can affect all men, there are now many different medical and non-medical options out there to treat it — from exercise to surgical intervention. However, one of the easiest, most effective, and best-known treatments for erection problems is Viagra. It’s the ED drug made by the pharmaceutical company, Pfizer, that’s powered by the active ingredient known as Sildenafil. The best ED treatment out there for you might be something completely different.

Cialis lasts up to 36 hours, making it a long-acting option. Viagra works faster, with effects in 30 minutes, but lasts only about four hours. Cialis is also approved for treating an enlarged prostate and has fewer food restrictions. You just pay less for the generic version. Available in 25mg, 50mg, and 100mg doses just like Viagra, generic Sildenafil delivers the same results at a fraction of the cost. If not the best Viagra, it’s up there with the best ED treatments out there. An alternative treatment for ED is Cialis, a medicine containing the active agent, Tadalafil. What’s the difference between Cialis and Viagra? You can get the full picture here. If Viagra is out of your system after 4 hours, Cialis works for 36 hours.
Cialis and Viagra share mechanisms of action but differ in side effects. According to pre-market trials, potential side effects include the following. *Based on the recommended "on-demand" dose Cialis comes in oral tablets of 2.5 mg, 5 mg, 10 mg, and 20 mg. For immediate ED treatment, you typically start with 10 mg and adjust based on tolerability or effectiveness. Viagra is also available in oral tablets of 25 mg, 50 mg, and 100 mg.
It's typically used at 50 mg once daily, but can be increased to 100 mg if needed. In terms of dosage, there is one big difference between Cialis and Viagra: With Cialis, you can take it "on demand" for the immediate generic viagra professional sildenafil 100mg treatment of ED or as a daily dose to achieve sustained relief of ED in a lower 2.5- or 5-mg dose. With Viagra, the drug is only used in anticipation of sex. Due to its short half-life, it is unsuitable for daily use. Cialis and Viagra vary in their effectiveness when taken with food: With Cialis, you can take a dose, even a small 2.5-mg dose, with or without food. And that gives everything a bit more flexibility. Both Tadalafil and Sildenafil are PDE5 inhibitors, and research has shown that there is little difference between their rates of effectiveness. Yet, studies suggest that side effects with Tadalafil are slightly less common. Other PDE5 inhibitors include Vardenafil, which is often sold as Levitra, and Avanafil (Stendra). While they work in similar ways to Tadalafil and Sildenafil, studies have shown them to be slightly less effective. You might find that these are good to try if you‘ve had limited success with the more effective alternatives.
The rate and degree of absorption of the drug are unaffected by food. With Viagra, taking a dose with food, especially high-fat foods, reduces its absorption and can make it less effective. Doing so also increases the risks of stomach upset and nausea. That said, all PDE5 inhibitors are about 70% effective at helping people have better erections. None is considered superior to the other in this respect.
That means seven out of 10 people who take a drug like Cialis or Viagra will have more frequent or longer-lasting erections. PDE5 inhibitors are sometimes used to treat other conditions besides ED. This includes special formulations of tadalafil and sildenafil, called Adcirca and Revatio, that are approved to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (high blood pressure in the lungs). In addition to the daily or "on-demand" use, Cialis and Viagra have also been given different approvals by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA): With Cialis, in addition to ED, the drug can also be taken as a 5-mg daily dose to treat an enlarged prostate, also known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It’s the active ingredient in Viagra and clinically proven to be highly effective by increasing blood flow into the penis. While most men start with the 50mg option — known as Viagra Connect — others will find that the 25mg or 100mg alternatives are more effective, or may help reduce annoying side effects. While Viagra is the best-known ED treatment, though, it doesn’t mean it’s the best.
